SEPTEMBER WALKS

During September our Weekly walks we will be donating to BBC Children in Need. Across the UK, children and young people continue to face a range of complicated challenges – with many having to cope with lots of issues at once.

Thursday 18th September 9.30am – West Dean and The New Centurion Way Extension Walk (approx. 6 miles) – Meeting at 9.15am for a 9.30am start at The Selsey Arms, West Dean we will explore the new part of the Centurion Way Walk heading up to Cucumber Farm visiting the old Singleton Railway before returning back to West Dean to enjoy more of the Centurion Way before heading along the bottom of the hills taking us back to the start.

Please Note: The new extension is sited approximately 750m north of the previously upgraded section that ends at West Dean Village Hall by West Dean School. To reach the new extension, path users must descend the ramp and turn right onto the public road and pass the school. At the A286 junction (in front of the Selsey Arms) turn left onto the improved footway or road and travel northwards.

After 200m pedestrians can join a new Permissive Path kindly provided by the West Dean Estate and meander through the woodland to connect directly with the Centurion Way extension at the West Dean Chalk Stone Halt. The link path is unsurfaced and includes some steps so is not ideal for wheeled-users but they are permitted to use it.

The route takes in a mix of sights and terrains as we make our way around the trail. Parking, refreshments and facilities are available during opening hours at The Selsey Arms and also West Dean Village Store. Dogs on leads are welcome, £1 donation per walk towards our charity of the month. ///arranged.profited.fastening

Tuesday 23rd September9.30am- Chithurst Buddhist Monastery – Meeting at The Iping Common Car Park at 9.15am for a 9.30am start we will head over the common towards the Chithurst Buddhist Monastery where we will visit the monastery, meander through the gardens before heading back along the fields at the back of Trotton before reaching Iping again and back to the start. Cittaviveka, also known as Chithurst Buddhist Monastery, is a monastery in the tradition of Theravada Buddhism, more specifically in the lineage of the Thai forest masters.

This is a beautiful 6.5km (approx. 4 miles) walk taking in great views of the heathlands, and South Downs as well as the tranquillity and peace of the monastery. There is a couple of stiles on this route and because of the visit to the monastery dogs are not recommended to come along on this walk. We will walk through the heathers and woodlands and around the farm land and you will have views toward the South Downs. Boots or wellies are highly recommended as this route can get quite muddy in places especially after rain. The route does have a little road walking in places so care is to be taken on these and 1 steep incline on the way back but other than this the route is flat. As before you are responsible for your own health and safety. £1 per walk donation towards the charity of the month. No refreshments enroute but there is toilet facilities at the monastery. ///subsystem.cleanser.doubts
